Former World Champion bridge player, Andrew Robson OBE, has presented a Masterclass in the popular sport which saw enthusiasts come together for this special event which took place on Monday 30th January, in support of Momentum Children’s Charity.
More than 130 people descended upon St. Mary’s Church in East Molesey for a full day of knowledge and tips about playing the card game which sees four players, in pairs of two, win tricks.
The event organised by bridge players and charity fundraisers, Michael Brown and Victor Lesk, raised £2,500. The two friends have been organising a long-running event called Café Bridge for more than four years, after attending their first Café Bridge event in Guildford and realising it is something they could set up in their local area.
Every year, three Café Bridge events take place on Bridge Road, East Molesey. Participants visit up to six cafés along the quaint street where they compete in games, take part in a raffle, and enjoy refreshments. The popular event raises money for Momentum Children’s Charity which has received more than £16,000 to date, supporting its work in helping families with seriously ill children.
Michael Brown, who lives in West Molesey, said: “It was a wonderful event for everyone involved and we were delighted that so many people came along to show their support. I first heard about Momentum Children’s Charity when I saw their boat on the River Thames in Kingston, and after learning more about their work in helping local families with children who are very unwell, I decided they would be very deserving as our charity beneficiary for Café Bridge. We look forward to raising a lot more money for them in the coming year.”
Andrew Robson OBE said: “What a fantastic day in East Molesey, raising money for Momentum Children’s Charity. I was busy giving tips and pointers to everyone who came along – what’s not to like on a rather cold January day!”
Bianca Effemey, Founder and CEO of Momentum Children’s Charity said: “A massive thank you to everyone who was part of this fantastic Bridge extravaganza, led by the very talented Andrew Robson OBE. We are hugely grateful to Michael Brown and Victor Lesk, the masterminds behind this brilliant event which raises valuable funds for our charity. Every penny raised allows us to continue helping local families of seriously ill children to keep moving forward.”
Momentum Children’s Charity supports families across London, Surrey and Sussex whose children are facing cancer or a life-challenging condition. The charity partners with local hospitals to offer personally tailored support to the entire family through our family support workers, both in hospital and at home.
